Running came to me later in life – I was one of those athletes growing up who considered running punishment; now that couldn’t be further from the truth! After my first official race, a 5-miler in March 2013, I was instantly hooked. I participated in the occasional Turkey Trot or St. Patrick’s Day race here and there for a couple of years; mainly just running to maintain fitness. Fast forward to 2018, my husband and I moved to Virginia Beach where we quickly discovered the incredible running community. I found myself visiting Running Etc. or jumping into races like you would swing by a neighbor’s house – just to say ‘hi’. I have raced every distance from the 5k to half marathon, but genuinely love the long run. This year will mark my first ultra-distance (yes, I am skipping right over the marathon!) and I cannot wait! Some people love racing, and I do enjoy it too, but my favorite part of running are the daily miles and the amazing people I have met along the way. When someone asks what I’m training for, my response is “life”.
