Ambassador - Katia Aaron

Katia AaronI grew up swimming competitively all the way through college; that was always my main focus. Running competitively was something I did for fun on the side to change it up. College was where I found that running can be more than training just to race. My cross country coach introduced us to trail running, where pace wasn't as important, and to race new distances just to try it out. That’s when I ran my first half, full, and ultra marathon. I took that with me when I moved to Hampton Roads right out of college. I started by going to Running Etc and they recommended that I meet up with the Norfolk Run Club and join the Running Etc Tuesday/Thursday workouts. At first, I went just to make friends, but it has since grown into a passion and love for the sport. Besides the weekday group runs, I really enjoy running in local races. I’ve found that Running Etc along with the Tidewater Striders really help to promote a strong running community. It's a lot of fun when I get to see everyone out at the start line and post race party. My favorite race distance is the half marathon, but I love marathon training. I love just putting in the miles and doing those really long runs. Outside of running I really enjoy playing pickleball with friends after work, as well as spending time with my tiny dog Maya (who occasionally makes an appearance at the post run club hang out).
