Ambassador - Sam Stephenson

I was a member of my high school’s track and field teaSamStephenson1.pngm as a pole vaulter, but I did not start running seriously until I joined the Triathlon Club at UVA as an undergraduate in 2015. This ignited a passion for endurance racing which has continued to this day. I regularly raced triathlons with the club at UVA and even completed Ironman Lake Placid in 2017. I am now a medical student at EVMS and I have shifted my main focus from triathlons to running because of time restraints. Running is something I look forward to every day and it has become my main mechanism to deal with the stress of medical school. I am a regular at some of the local group runs. However, I am much more likely to be seen at morning runs than in the evening. I had two big running breakthroughs in 2020: I finally broke the 3-hour marathon barrier with my virtual Shamrock Marathon in March and I broke the 5-minute mile barrier at the Tidewater Strider’s Mile in August. I am looking forward to the time when bigger races are able to resume so that I can qualify for and run Boston. I am excited for what my future in running holds and I am proud to do it as a Running Etc. Ambassador
